Case Study

OVERVIEW

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Our client sought out to understand how parents decide where to send their children to school. The client has access to extensive data on both public and private schools but is uncertain about its relevance to parents. The project involved analyzing this data and interview transcripts from several parents to identify key decision-making factors.

Choosing the right school for their children is one of the most important decisions parents make. It affects the child's academic, social, and overall well-being. Parents need to consider various factors like academic performance, extracurricular activities, school culture, location, costs, and feedback from other parents and students. Despite the importance, many parents find it difficult to gather, compare, and analyze all the necessary information to make an informed choice.

OBJECTIVES

  1. Identify Key Factors: Determine the most relevant factors influencing parents' school selection.

  2. Data Relevance: Assess which available data points are significant to parents.

  3. Improve Decision-Making: Provide insights to help the client refine their data and support parents in making informed decisions.

TARGET MARKET

  • Primary: Parents considering different schools for their children.

  • Secondary: Educational institutions aiming to attract parents and improve their services.

RESEARCH

Examination of various data points to help parents evaluate and compare schools based on identified key factors.

Parents have varied priorities depending on their unique circumstances.

Solution: Created a flexible tool that allows parents to weigh different factors according to their individual needs.

  • Six Interviews with parents considering different schools were conducted. Transcripts were analyzed to identify common themes and decision making criteria such as classroom size, student test scores, school proximity, extracurricular activities and tuition.

  • Classified and ranked data points based on relevance and frequency of mention in parent interviews.

Used tools like Figma and Photoshop for data visualization and analysis to highlight important trends and insights.

  • Focused on parents' needs and preferences as identified through interviews.

Created personas and user journey maps to visualize the decision-making process.

IDEATION

The sketching phase was crucial in translating initial ideas into tangible designs. Low-fidelity wireframes to outline the basic structure and layout of the decision-making tool. These wireframes focused on functionality and user flow rather than aesthetics.

The sketches were shared with potential users and parents to gather feedback and iterate on the designs, ensuring alignment with user needs and preferences.

PROTOTYPE

The high-fidelity prototype phase involved creating detailed and interactive versions of the sketches, focusing on visual aesthetics, branding, and user experience.
